The National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS) of Trieste has installed an instrument monitoring buoy in the Otranto canal as part of a European project. This is a floating system connected to a depth of 1.200 metres and fitted instruments and sensors in order to carry out profiles of the wind and water. For this project a Resinex model Pem18 buoy was used with a float of 1.8 metre diameter with a signalling lantern. The power is guaranteed by solar panels.
