For the Achwa project in Uganda Resinex supplied a high resistant and long lasting barrier to prevent the debris transported by Achwa river from reaching the plant whence the water is drawn for the production of energy.
In order to guarantee the maximum feature of the barrier, Resinex engineers have carried out a study on its tightness by considering the river water’s speed on the surface, the water’s speed trend with the increase of depth, the weather conditions and other specific factors that allowed the performance optimization of the installed product.
The barrier is composed of 11 sections of 15 floats each. The floats have a shell in linear polyethylene filled with polyurethane foam. The high resistance rope which passes through the floats is made of stainless steel.
The high quality materials (rigid linear polyethylene and stainless steel) have been accurately chosen to ensure an extreme resistance and ability of the barrier to stop the debris and to guarantee a long life cycle with a minimum maintenance.
The project of the two hydroelectric power plants installed along the river Achwa has been realized by the Italian company PAC in Uganda.
